Cosmote SMS Promo FAQs

What is the Cosmote SMS Contest
The Cosmote SMS Contest is an event organized to promote the new Cosmote wallpaper service “Cosmote Your Choice”. Every day, participants can win great prizes by playing a trivia quiz game with multiple choice questions that carry 2 possible answers.
The Contest will last 140 days. For the first 105 days, from 20.09.2010 to 02.01.2011, every day (besides Sundays), a lucky participant will win through a lucky draw the prize of his choice: 1 BMW 1 Series or Vacations of 10 years worth 15.000 €, or a House Makeover worth 15.000 €.
Every Sunday, the participant that has collected the most points so far by answering questions, wins automatically, without a draw the prize of his choice: 1 BMW 1 Series, or Vacations of 10 years worth 15.000 €, or a House Makeover worth 15.000 €.

For the rest 35 days, from 02.01.2011 to 06.02.2011, every day (besides Sundays), a lucky participant will win through a lucky draw a fantastic prize: i-Phone, Laptop, TV LCD, vouchers, trips, netbooks, etc. Every Sunday, a lucky will win through a lucky draw, the prize of his choice: 1 BMW 1 Series, or Vacations of 10 years worth 15.000 €, or a House Makeover worth 15.000 €.

To participate, Cosmote subscribers must send a blank SMS to 54440 (1,23€/SMS). (To play the game in English, send “start” to 54440). They will receive instructions on how the game is played and then they will receive multiple choice questions which they have to answer by sending 1 or 2 to 54440, according to which answer they think is correct. Every right answer gives at least 10 points, which corresponds to equivalent participations in the daily draws. In addition, for every SMS sent to 54440, regardless if their answer was correct or wrong, they get the right to download one wallpaper from the web site www.cosmoteyourchoice.gr.

1.2. What is the duration of the contest?
The contest will last 140 days, September 20, 2010 – February 6, 2011.

1.3. Who can participate?
All Cosmote subscribers who have completed 18 years of age and are permanent residents of Greece. Subscribers who have a connection through contract, and / or card phone, and / or business account (in which case they must have their company’s permission to participate). 

1.4. Who can not participate?

  • Subscribers Cosmote - CIAO
  • All those who are not Cosmote subscribers
  • People who work in the following companies: Cosmote, Bold Ogilvy & Μather, Ogilvy One, Going Up, and their first and second degree relatives.
  • People who are not permanent residents of Greece

1.5. How can somebody participate?
To participate, subscribers must send a blank SMS to 54440 from a Cosmote mobile phone. Or send “start” to 5440 in order to play the game in English. (Cost of SMS: 1,23 €, including VAT - All SMS participants receive are free of charge: 0€)
Then, they will receive instructions on how the game is played and then they will receive multiple choice questions which they have to answer by sending 1 or 2 to 54440, according to which answer they think is correct. Every right answer gives at least 10 points, which corresponds to equivalent participations in the daily draws. Wrong answers give 0 points. In addition, for every SMS sent to 54440, regardless if their answer was correct or wrong, they get the right to download one wallpaper from the web site www.cosmoteyourchoice.gr. During the contest, participants can win more points through various bonus schemes. The more correct answers one sends, the better chances he has to win.

1.6. To what number do I send SMS?
The number to send SMS is 54440.

1.7. How much does each SMS to 54440 cost?
Each SMS sent to 54440 costs 1,23€ (including VAT). All SMS participants receive are free of charge.  

1.8. I have received SMS from 54440. Am I charged for these?
No, all the SMS you receive with questions or information regarding the contest are free of charge. 

1.9. I have received a SMS regarding the contest, although I have not sent any SMS to participate.
Since this is a contest with many great prizes, Cosmote wishes to inform all its subscribers so that they can participate and win the prize of their choice. If you do not want to receive information regarding the contest, call 1222, free from a Cosmote mobile, or send the word  ΣΤΟΠ, or stop to 19011, free of charge.

1.10. How many SMS can I send?
There is no limit to the number of SMS one can send for the contest. Participants can send as many SMS they want, 24/7.

1.11. How many prizes will be given away?

  • 100 grand daily prizes - besides Sundays (BMW, Vacations, House Makeover)
  • 20 weekly prizes, 1 every Sunday (BMW, Vacations, House Makeover)
  • Many other fantastic prizes (i-Phone, TV LCD, laptops, vouchers, etc)

1.12. What is the meaning of points?
Each point equals one participation in the lucky draws and one participation to claim the weekly prize. The more points one collects, the more chances he has to win.
At the end of each day, (besides Sundays) a lucky participant wins a prize with a lucky draw.
Every Sunday, from 20.09.2010 to 02.01.2010 the participant that has collected the most points so far by answering questions, wins automatically, without a draw the prize of his choice: 1 BMW 1 Series, or Vacations of 10 years worth 15.000 €, or a House Makeover worth 15.000 €.
Every Sunday, from 03.01.2011 to 06.021.2010 a lucky participant wins through a lucky draw the prize of his choice: 1 BMW 1 Series, or Vacations of 10 years worth 15.000 €, or a House Makeover worth 15.000€.

1.13. How do I participate in the draws?
Each participant enters the daily draw with all the points he has collected since the beginning of the contest, provided he has sent at least 1 SMS during the day of the draw.
In addition, each participant claims the Sunday prize with all the points he has collected since the beginning of the contest, provided he has sent at least 1 SMS during that week.

1.14. How many points do I get for the questions I answer?
Every correct answer gives at least 10 points, while wrong answers give 0 points. However, during the contest, there are many bonus schemes where the respective questions give out more points.

1.15. How many points do I have?
To find out how many points you have, send the word ΠΟΝΤΟΙ, or points to 19011, free of charge.
After each SMS you send to 54440 you will receive a reply SMS that informs you about the total points you have collected so far. For more information, you may call at 1222, free of charge from a Cosmote mobile.

1.16. After the daily prize is awarded do my points turn to zero?
No, points are never lost. With each new SMS on any given day, the points are transferred to that day’s draw and for the awarding of the weekly prize.

1.17. I have sent my first SMS. Do I participate in the draw?
Of course! With the first SMS you participate in that day’s draw and you also claim the weekly prize. However, the more questions you answer, the more chances you get to win the prize of your choice!

1.18. What happens with the questions I have let unanswered?
When a question is left unanswered, it remains valid until the participant receives a new one. This means that if someone has left a question unanswered, without having received a new one, if at some point he answers this question correctly, he will get the points stated in the question even if a number of hours have passed, or even if this happens the next day. However, if the participant receives a new question, if there is another that has been left unanswered, this then becomes invalid and only the last question received is valid.

1.19. Why am I asked to give my name on my second participation day?
If someone does win, certain info will be needed to confirm the winner. In addition, since this is a fun game, it is preferred that participants are referred to on a first name basis.

1.20. I am trying to send SMS to 54440 from my mobile but it is not possible to do so. What can I do? Check if the memory of your messages is full. Delete some messages and try again. For card phones, please check your balance. If the problem persists, contact us by calling 1222 from any Cosmote mobile.

2. Questions regarding the terms of the Contest 

2.1. The full terms of the contest can be found at the respective site of the Contest -
www.cosmoteyourchoice.gr. Participants can also find information regarding the contest by calling at the call center number 1222, free of charge from any Cosmote mobile.  

2.2. What are “informational SMS”?
These are SMS with information regarding the contest which subscribers receive without having previously sent a respective SMS. I.e. a participant may receive a SMS informing him about yesterday’s winner. All SMS subscribers receive regarding the contest are free of charge.  

2.3. Is it possible not to receive informational SMS regarding the contest?
Of course! If you do not want to receive information regarding the contest, call 1222, free from a Cosmote mobile, or send the word ΣΤΟΠ, or stop to 19011, free of charge.

2.4. What happens if someone participates in the contest with a mobile that does not belong to him?
Cosmote regards that each participant is the rightful owner of the respective SIM card or that he has received permission from the owner to participate. In case the participant wins, the winner must provide the SIM card with which he won.

3. Questions regarding the prizes  

3.1. How do I know if I have won?
As soon as someone wins, he is contacted by a Cosmote employee and his name will appear in the site of the contest, www.cosmoteyourchoice.gr, provided the winner has given his permission to do so.  

3.2. If I win can I continue playing to win another prize?
Every participant can win only one great prize. A soon as someone wins a great daily or weekly prize, he is informed by SMS that he can not continue playing from this mobile phone. However, if someone wins one of the smaller prizes, he can win one great daily or weekly prize, but not another smaller prize.

3.3. What do I need to present to receive my prize?
When someone wins, he is contacted immediately by a Cosmote employee who informs him that he is a winner and explains the typical procedure. The winner has to provide the Sim card of his mobile with which he won, proper ID, and if he is a subscriber by contract, the receipt of paying the bill of the respective mobile that corresponds to the period of the contest, including the day he won in the contest. Then, when the winner receives his prize, he will also have to sign the prize acceptance document.
After each day, the numbers of the winners are given to the call center in order to contact winners and inform them accordingly. The call center calls continuously for 72 hours trying to contact the winner at the mobile with which he participated in the contest.  After the 72 hours period has expired, and it has been impossible to contact the winner, the procedure will be repeated with the first runner up. After the winner has been contacted, the call center will try to confirm that the person contacted, was the same person that participated in the contest.

3.4. If I win, when do I get my prize?
The prizes will be distributed after the respective procedure has been completed.
Regarding the car prize, the respective order will be set in due time and when the car is available,, it will be delivered to the winner.
Regarding the House Makeover, the winner will present pro forma invoices from the company of his choice, up to the sum of 15.000 €, or pro forma invoices of household goods of his choice up to the sum of 15.000 € and Cosmote will proceed with payment of the pro forma invoices. Winners are obliged to provide the respective invoices or pro forma invoices for payment, within 90 days from the day that they won their prize, otherwise they lose their prize.
Regarding the Vacations prize, Cosmote will provide the winners with a voucher worth 15.000 € from a well established travel agency. Then the winners can use this voucher as they please within a time period of 10 years.
It should be noted that if the winner has a Cosmote connection through a contract, to receive the prize, he must present the receipt of paying the bill of the respective mobile that corresponds to the period of the contest, including the day he won in the contest.

3.5. Besides the winners, are there runners up?
For every winner, there are five runners up, for the following cases:

  • In case a winner refuses to accept his prize
  • In case it is impossible to find and notify the winner
  • In case the winner does not accept, or does not comply with the terms and conditions of the contest.


3.6. Where are the winners names going to be published?
After the winners provide the required identification documents and if they meet all the requirements according to the terms, and after they accept to have their names announced by Cosmote, these will be published on the site www.cosmoteyourchoice.gr.

3.7. Besides the Daily and Sunday prizes, are there any other prizes?
During the contest, participants will be able to win with a lucky draw many extra prizes such as laptops, TV sets, etc. More information about the extra prizes can be found in the site of the contest.

4. Questions regarding the SMS
4.1. I have sent an SMS but have not received a reply SMS
If you have not received a reply SMS, please confirm the following:

  • Check the memory of your mobile in case it is full and you can not accept more SMS. To clear up your memory you have to delete some messages.
  • The message may not have been sent to the right number. Check your Sent messages and if it was sent to the wrong number, resend it to 54440.
  • There is a chance that the network in your area is overloaded at the moment. Please be patient. If you don’t receive a SMS in the next 15 minutes, you can send a new SMS.

4.2. Why, although I have sent an SMS, my points have not changed?
Most probably, the answer you sent was incorrect. The first SMS you sent to 54440 gives you automatically 10 points (or more). If you need further help, please call 1222, free from a Cosmote mobile. All SMS are stored, so whatever the matter, your points will be updated and you will receive the number of your total points with the next message.   

4.3. Can I play using different mobile phones?
You can participate with as many Cosmote numbers as you want. However, please remember that each number participates separately.
4.4. Can I transfer my points in case I change the number of my connection?
Points can not be transferred in this way. In case you start using a new Sim card, you must keep the old one because if you win, you must present it to receive your prize.

Besides the short code 54440, is there another short code to which I can send SMS for the contest?

For the contest, besides 54440, you can use 19011.  Someone who does not participate in the contest can send a blank SMS to 19011, free of charge, and enter the contest with 5 points. This way, Cosmote gives all subscribers an opportunity to win the prize of their choice, free of charge. In addition, participants can send SMS to 19011, free of charge to find out how many points they have, or to stop receiving informational messages regarding the contest.
Thus, the short code 19011 functions as follows:

  • By sending the word ΠΟΝΤΟΙ or points to 19011, free of charge, the participant receives a SMS that informs him about the total number of points he has accumulated. 
  • By sending the word CREDITS to 19011, free of charge, the participant receives a SMS that informs him about the total number of wallpapers he has bought. 
  • By sending the word ΣΤΟΠ or STOP to 19011, free of charge, the participant will stop receiving informational messages regarding the contest.
